New Year, New You: February Update

As I write this, I am sitting on my front porch watching the sun set.  What a gorgeous day it has been!  I am so grateful for warmth and sunshine!  Had the doors open and the cats loved being able to run in and out all day.  Since it’s almost mid-March I thought I’d give you a recap of new things for February.  Better late than never, right?  🙂

The big change, of course, has been restarting my T-Tapp routine.  You can read more about my T-Tapp journey here.  Total inches lost for February was…drumroll please…14 1/2!  I have to say that I am somewhat disappointed in myself though.  I only actually worked out 6 times for the whole month.  🙁  Imagine what it could have been…sigh…But this is a new month!  I will do better!

The other major change in Feb. was the decision to not use the microwave anymore.  Most of the time it hasn’t been an issue, but I do miss the convenience of the spur of the moment baked potato!  I really hate heating up my oven to bake one potato.  I am looking at replacing the microwave with a toaster oven/convection oven.  It would be about the same size as my microwave, but much smaller than my oven, so I wouldn’t mind baking just one potato as much.  Of course, I could always bake more than one and then shred or cube them to freeze for other meals liked Loaded Baked Potato Soup or breakfast items like hash browns or fried potatoes.  Hhhhmmmm…definately something to think about.

That just about sums up the month of February.  If I remember anything else, I’ll add them to the March re-cap that will be coming up in about 3 weeks…You know, they say that the older you get the faster time flies by.  While I’m not really sure who “they” are and why I should believe anything “they” tell me, I can’t help but wonder what it’s going to be like in another 20 years…

Blessings

New Year, New You #4: I’m Back in the Saddle Again…

This episode of the New Year, New You series is all about movement.  I don’t want to use the “e” word because that word comes with way too much baggage.  I kinda fell off the wagon last summer when it got so hot.  There were other reasons, too, but I’ll talk about that another time.  Now with my Babygirl’s wedding less than five months away, I decided I had better get back on it.  I have a goal size for the wedding as opposed to a goal weight.  The particular workout that I use builds lots of core muscle density while burning off pounds, so you can actually weigh more at a smaller size.  I know, right?  “Sounds kinda hinky”, you might be thinking.  I don’t blame you.  I thought the same thing when I first heard about it.  Then after 30 days of doing the 15 minute workout I lost 2 whole dress sizes (almost three-I could get them zipped up but would likely have gotten arrested if I had left the dressing room 🙂 ) and only 2 pounds on the scale.  33 1/4 total inches lost.  Honest.  It really happened.  AND I didn’t even change the way I was eating.  Cross my heart.

This workout is called T-Tapp.  It was developed by Teresa Tapp, an exercise physiologist from Florida (and just a really great human being :)).  You can check out her website for yourself here.  I heard about it on Facebook and decided to give it a try.  I was skeptical at first.  I ordered her book, Fit and Fabulous in 15 Minutes, and read it 3 or 4 times before I ordered the workout DVD.  The book has the program in great detail in it, but I needed to watch someone do it.  I think I probably watched the workout several times and watched all the interviews with the people on the DVD before I ever actually did it myself.

The first day seemed pretty easy.  The second day I was pretty sore.  On the third day I though all kinds of bad things about her (and her little dogs too!) as I was trying to get out of bed.  The fourth day I repented.  🙂  It is indeed the “workout that works”!  Anyone, no matter your size, fitness level, or disabilities can do this because you do it to your best ability.  Need to stop and catch your breath?  No problem.  Need a drink?  Go get one.  Seriously.  I encourage you to check this out.  I am not an affiliate or anything and I’m not getting paid to say this.  It’s just that good.

And I’ll keep you updated on my progress.  Nothing like a little accountability to keep me motivated!

I shared this at Monday Mania.

New Year, New You: January Re-cap

Happy last day of January!  Since it’s the end of the month I thought I would just share with you my changes for the month.  Some changes have been easy, some have been harder.  It actually only took a few hours to clean out the pantry, although the emotional trauma is still with me.  🙂  So, drumroll please:  in the healthy eating category I got rid of the bad oils, high fructose corn syrup, white refined sugar (see what I did with that here), and I’m working in kicking my Dr. Pepper habit.  I have begun soaking my oatmeal and I installed a faucet mount water filter for drinking and cooking.

In other areas, I have begun recycling (I know, right?) and I am doing a ton of research on whole foods, traditional ways of food preparation, and healthier alternatives to household products.  And I’ve been more consistent with my blogging! 🙂  My pantry purge also triggered a purging spree throughout my entire house.  If I don’t love it and/or use it, it’s outa here.  It’s been incredibly freeing to de-clutter.  And I love having less to dust.

So there you have it.  Some baby steps towards a better year and a better, healthier life.  Over this next month I hope to find healthier versions of some of our favorite foods, especially some of those packaged mixes the I like.  Switching to whole foods is a process and there’s grace for the journey.

Have you made some changes this month?  What has been the most challenging for you?
