Daddy walking my beautiful Ashley down the aisle.
Last week, my little corner of the world said goodbye to a wonderful man as my father transitioned to his heavenly home. He had fought a 15 year battle with cancer and finally said “enough”. He faced that fight with faith, humor, and incredible courage. And so it was fitting that we celebrated his life with both faith and humor at the service honoring him. It was incredible to hear from those he touched on his earthly journey. Young and old, rich and poor, and from very faith and background, we are still hearing stories about my dad. And in every one there is usually a very bad joke and a wealth of joy; both of which characterized his every waking moment. For 20+ years he served his country in the Air Force all over the world, and for another 20+ years he taught young people at Oklahoma State University. And everywhere he went he modeled integrity, faith, and a zest for life that impacted those around him far more than I think he realized.
Daddy, I am honored and blessed that Papa chose you to be my father. Thank you for modeling faith, honor, and integrity to me always. Thank you for honoring and loving Mom the way you did. Thank you for being a father to my children when they needed one and to countless other young people that came into your life. And thank you for teaching me the importance of a good sense of humor. I will love you always and miss you without despairing, because I know that we will be reunited again.
And for goodness sake, don’t tell Saint Peter the one about Foot, Foot Foot, and Foot Foot Foot…
Well, it has been quite a week! Instead of adding things to the store and promoting the Bear Creek General Store Grand Opening giveaway, I spent several days in Tulsa at St. John’s with my son who underwent emergency brain surgery. All is well and we were blessed to have a wonderful surgeon and amazing nurses during our stay. We are at home now and the doctor says 2 to 4 week total recovery time. Which is incredible to me. Jeremiah is shooting for the 2 weeks as his college classes started this week and he’s anxious to get back to class. 🙂 He’s sporting quite an interesting hair-do because they shaved about 3/4 of his head. Why they left the rest I don’t know, but his sister is trying to get him to dye what’s left blue and gel it so it stands up. Oh, my!
Now that things are starting to return to normal, I thought I should get back to the blog. I am extending the giveaway for the store until next Friday, January 18th. The prize is this beautiful hand knitted scarf made from the new Ribbons yarn from Red Heart Boutique.
All you have to do to enter is to let me know what sorts of things you would like us to have available in the store. We have several things in the works, from fitted cloth diapers to aprons to washable crochet covers for swiffer mops to hand turned wooden pens to woven placemats. All handmade by local crafters and artists. Please let us know what you think as your input is greatly appreciated!
Happy New Year everyone! I’m starting the year off right, here on the farm. I’ve just done something that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. I have opened a store here on the website. The Bear Creek General Store is a place for creative people to share their gifts with the world. It’s a very small beginning of a very large vision that will continue to unfold as we go. One of the things that I love about this vision is the opportunity to build relationships with local people who love to create and want to bless people with their talents. There will be no mass production and many of the items will be one-of-a-kind. While there are only a few things available right now, new items will be added weekly. I hope you will join me in supporting the stay at home moms, young adults, retired persons, and single parents that will be represented here. Come back often to find out what the newest offerings are.
And to kick off the Grand Opening I have a giveaway! This beautiful ruffle scarf will go to some lucky person!
All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling me what you would love to see us selling here at the General Store. I will draw the winning name next Friday, January 11th.
Happy New Year and happy shopping!
